EPFL Middle East, for its first Research & Innovation Today event, presents the UAE-Swiss Research Day on 22 and 23 June 2011, on the EPFL campus. Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of scientific research and higher education, the conference is set to become a cornerstone of the Emirati-Swiss Friendship Forum 2011, organized by Swiss and UAE Authorities and scheduled to address the transfer of science and technology into industry and businesses.
The workshop focuses on the Future of Energy and Sustainability, through graduate-level research projects and initiatives. Over 100 participants from leading UAE and Swiss institutions have confirmed their attendance: Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE University, Zayed University, American University of Sharjah, American University of Ras Al Khaimah, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and University of Geneva. The workshop is transdisciplinary and reflects complementary areas of focus of the participating institutions, on the topic of energy and sustainability.
The UAE-Swiss research day features leaders from academy and industry, a round table on innovation and technology transfer, a poster session, and oral sessions highlighting a number of selected student research projects (10’ presentation + 5’ discussion). Visitors and participants at the poster session will have a chance to ”vote for two projects : one Emirati, and one Swiss”. The leading presenting student of each of these two laureate projects will be rewarded at the gala dinner of the Emirati-Swiss Friendship Forum.
