The Impact of Distributed Generation on Energy Trading Share Share

Power generation from locally available renewable sources is increasingly gaining attention and support, but the integration of these new sources of energy into the power grid still poses great challenges to power providers.

For her Master’s thesis with BKW Energie AG, Corina Stoenescu sought to analyze the distributed generation phenomenon and the way its evolution is expected to transform the energy trading business.

Her research shows that business models should focus on direct links between the distributed generation from renewables and their end-customer, the energy user, adding that future energy trading business is likely to be localized and driven from the bottom-up.
